Police in Kabale District have arrested a man accused of assaulting his wife to death in a suspected case of domestic violence.
The suspect, Babikyingira Godfrey, is being held at Kabale Central Police Station in connection with the death of his wife, Niwamanya Gorrette, also known as Koreti, 35, a resident of Nyakarindi Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 7, 2026, at around 7:30 p.m. following a misunderstanding between the couple after the deceased had been drinking waragi at a local bar in Kasheregyenyi.
Police allege that the suspect accused his wife of stealing his money before assaulting her using a fencing plant locally known as oruyenge, causing fatal injuries.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, confirmed the arrest and said investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
He also cautioned the public against domestic violence, urging families to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes with the help of local leaders and authorities.
