Police in Kisoro District have arrested a 30-year-old woman accused of killing her young daughter by dumping her into a rainwater harvesting tank.
The suspect, Jackline Ruhangariho, a resident of Murindi Village in Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub-county, is alleged to have thrown her 2-year and 8-month-old daughter into the tank under unclear circumstances.
Local Council I Chairperson Steven Bakunzi reported receiving an alarming message from residents who discovered the child’s body in the water tank.
He promptly informed officers at Kanaba Police Post, who responded to the scene before requesting assistance from Kisoro Central Police Station.
Police retrieved the body and conducted a postmortem examination at the scene. The child’s remains were later handed over to relatives for burial.
Ruhangariho is currently detained at Kisoro Police Station as investigations continue.
Police had not issued an official statement on the incident by press time.
