Tensions in the Mbarara City Woman MP race escalated on Sunday morning when violent clashes broke out between rival political supporters during the 2025 Qadh Run held at the Global High School grounds.

The chaos began when supporters of Charity Kamuhanda Kibaaju, the NRM candidate for the Mbarara City Woman MP seat, reportedly attempted to confront incumbent MP Ritah Atukwatsa Bwahika, who was officiating as guest of honor at the event.

The confrontation quickly spiraled into violence as Bwahika’s supporters retaliated, leading to a scuffle that disrupted the otherwise peaceful charity event.

Organized by the Mbarara Muslim Supreme Council, the Qadh Run is an annual marathon aimed at raising UGX 250 million to establish a Muslim-based radio station in the region.

In the aftermath, MP Ritah Bwahika strongly condemned the incident, calling for calm and reminding the public that Mbarara City has long upheld a tradition of peaceful elections. “Violence has no place in our politics,” she said.

Meanwhile, Charity Kamuhanda Kibaaju expressed regret over the behavior of her supporters and pledged to take steps to maintain discipline throughout her campaign.

Authorities have yet to confirm if any arrests were made or if investigations into the incident are underway.
