The Kabale Municipal Valuation Court has handled 20 complaints from property owners challenging what they describe as excessively high property tax assessments.

Presiding over the session at Kabale Municipality, Counsel Justus Muhangi said eight cases remain pending, with more complaints expected to be considered as they arise.

He noted that many taxpayers lack a clear understanding of how property tax is assessed, pointing to a gap in public awareness. Several complainants argued that the taxes are too high, while others cited poor service delivery including unreliable water supply, weak garbage collection, and poor road networks despite meeting their obligations.

Counsel Muhangi urged the municipal council to strengthen public sensitization efforts to help residents better understand tax calculations and compliance.

The Valuation Court, established in 2007, handles property-related disputes, with assessments based on rental value, property size, location, usage, and available amenities.
