Ugandans Demand Citizen-Centred Budget Ahead of FY 2026/27 Presentation

By Aggrey Twesigye

Ugandans have called on the government to adopt a more citizen-centred approach in the 2026/27 National Budget, which is set to be presented by Finance Minister Henry Musasizi Ariganyira at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds this afternoon.

The calls come as stakeholders urge government to prioritize grassroots funding, reduce dependence on domestic and external borrowing, increase transparency in the management of classified expenditures, and strengthen efforts to curb corruption.

Speaking on the matter, Isingiro District Chairperson Aaron Turahi revealed that the district had submitted a proposed budget of Shs91 billion to the Ministry of Finance. However, he expressed uncertainty over whether the district would receive the full allocation, citing fluctuations in fuel prices that could affect government spending and service delivery.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City Speaker Bonny Tashobya Karusya called for increased investment in road infrastructure, noting that many roads across the country remain in poor condition, affecting transportation, trade, and economic growth.
