Rubanda District Local Government has unveiled plans to construct 20 pit latrines in primary schools at a cost of Shs300 million during the 2025/2026 financial year, District LC5 Chairman Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba has announced.

Speaking during the commissioning of a new multipurpose building at St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Muko Sub County, Rubanda West Constituency, Kasyaba emphasized the urgent need to improve sanitation in schools.

The newly commissioned building, constructed by Arch-Civil Contractors and Builders Ltd at a cost of Shs250 million, will serve as a dining hall, examination center, student assembly area, and recreational space.

Kasyaba noted that the latrine construction program is aimed at addressing the shortage of sanitation facilities in primary schools across the district.

So far, 46 modern pit latrines have been built, with plans to add 20 more before the end of the current financial term.

He stressed that the initiative will particularly benefit pupils, especially girls, by ensuring better hygiene and reducing school absenteeism due to inadequate sanitation facilities.
