Police in Kasese District have announced plans to strengthen community policing to address the increasing cases of homicide.
Speaking at a press conference at Kasese Central Police Station, Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime revealed that three homicide cases were reported in the past week.
On March 19, 2025, Samuel Muhindo Kinyaunyau from Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council drowned in a gully, with investigations ongoing.
In a separate incident on March 17, retired police officer Sipiriano Kyakwairwe, 65, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife, Night Masika, to death in Kakone I Village, Nyakiyumbu Sub-county, during a domestic dispute.
Additionally, on March 21, Hassan Ngobi Kadogo of Nyakasojo Lower Cell, Bulembia Division, reportedly cut off his wife Esther Mbambu’s arms over domestic misunderstandings.
SP Tumushime attributed the rise in homicides to a lack of adherence to the law and called for enhanced community cooperation.
He emphasized the importance of family unity in resolving domestic conflicts peacefully, adding that increased community policing efforts will aim to prevent further violence.
