The Police in Kasese District have arrested a well-known restaurant operator on Crescent Road in Kasese town over allegations of stealing approximately 20 goats and sheep.
Moses Muhindo, who runs a goat meat restaurant opposite Skyz Lounge, was apprehended early this morning in Kizungu, Nyakasanga Ward, Nyamwamba Division. He is currently being held at Kasese Central Police Station.
According to SP Luka Mbusa, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Community Liaison Officer, Muhindo was caught attempting to slaughter the stolen animals around 3 a.m.
An angry mob, suspicious of his activities, nearly lynched him before the police intervened and took him into custody.
SP Mbusa urged hotel and restaurant operators to maintain transparency in food preparation and avoid mixing different types of meat without informing customers.
He emphasized that some diners are uncomfortable consuming certain kinds of meat and should be given clear choices.
Residents of Nyakasanga II say they have been grappling with frequent livestock thefts. Shamim Masika, a local resident, claimed that Muhindo had long been suspected of stealing animals in the area.
Similarly, Noah Kule echoed concerns that the community had been gathering evidence against Muhindo, suspecting his involvement in the ongoing livestock thefts.
