Communities living near Queen Elizabeth National Park have received over 2,000 birds from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) under a livelihood support program aimed at boosting household incomes.

According to Chrispus Muhindo from WWF,, the initiative is intended to support communities that are often affected by problem animals from the park. He noted that providing alternative sources of income can help reduce human-wildlife conflict.

Nyakatonzi Sub-county Chairperson Stephen Mbera said the bird distribution complements the Parish Development Model, pledging that beneficiaries will take proper care of the birds.

Meanwhile, Peace Birungi, a coordinator of the beneficiary group, welcomed the support, saying it will help improve livelihoods.
