The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, has urged Christians to avoid handshakes and unnecessary travel as part of efforts to prevent the spread of Ebola following the confirmation of at least three cases in Uganda.
Speaking during Pentecost Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral, Bishop Rubaramira called on Ugandans to take the Ebola outbreak seriously and strictly observe preventive measures.
He cautioned Christians against unnecessary physical contact, warning that it could increase the risk of spreading the virus, and advised believers to avoid travelling to areas where Ebola cases have been reported.
The bishop also urged Christians to remain united in prayer for divine protection and healing for those affected by the disease.
Meanwhile, Rushoroza Cathedral Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Christmas Austen said the parish has already introduced preventive measures, including placing hand sanitizers at different entry points.
During his Pentecost homily, Bishop Rubaramira reminded Christians that Pentecost marks the birth of the Church and encouraged believers to remain committed to faith, courage, and service.
At Christ the King Parish in Kabale Municipality, Curate Rev. Fr. Nelson Agaba urged Christians to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, especially during difficult moments and decision-making.
He emphasized that true peace can only exist in hearts free from sin, hatred, anger, and division.
