Schools in Mbarara have intensified Ebola prevention measures as the second term begins amid the country’s ongoing fight against the virus.
The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced that teams of experts will be deployed to schools starting today to monitor compliance with standard operating procedures issued by the Ministry of Health.
At Boma Primary School, headteacher Steven Kumureeba said the school has established a committee made up of teachers and learners to oversee implementation of safety measures.

He noted that the committee is ensuring availability of handwashing facilities, placement of sanitizers in classrooms, and close monitoring of learners showing Ebola-like symptoms.
At Uganda Martyrs Primary School, headteacher Fredrick Tumuhiirwe said the school has installed handwashing facilities and displayed sensitization messages to educate learners about Ebola prevention.
The measures come as schools across the country are urged to remain vigilant and strictly follow health guidelines to prevent possible outbreaks.
