A carpenter identified as Yohazi Muhindo has died following an assault in Basecamp Lower, Central Division, Kasese Municipality, on the evening of May 19, 2026.
According to reports, Muhindo had gone to the home of Bright Bush, a resident and video hall operator, demanding payment for carpentry work allegedly carried out at Bush’s residence.
Residents at the scene reportedly suspected Muhindo of being a thief and began assaulting him.
Muhindo was later rescued and taken to the area LCI office, where witnesses allege that Mr. Bush also assaulted him.
After discussions, Muhindo reportedly explained that he had gone to collect payment for work done at Bush’s home.
He was later allowed to leave and went to sleep at his brother’s home nearby as he planned to seek medical attention for the injuries sustained.
However, family members later found him dead when they attempted to wake him up.
Mr. Milton Bikopo, the father of the deceased, said the family intends to pursue justice through the courts.
Rwenzori East Region Police visited the scene and arrested Mr. Bush together with other individuals to assist with investigations.
SP Nelson Tumushime confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
