The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, this afternoon arrived in the Diocese of Kigezi for a four-day pastoral and farewell visit.
Upon his arrival at Rwahi, Archbishop Kaziimba was warmly received by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, retired bishops George Bagamuhunda and William Rukirande, as well as clergy and Christians from across the diocese.
Later in the day, the Archbishop officially opened the Diocese of Kigezi’s annual Brethren Conference at the Convention Centre in Rugarama, Kabale Municipality. The conference, which began today, is being held under the theme drawn from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 2:14: “Christ is our peace.” It is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
In his sermon, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized that true peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
“He does not just bring peace; He is our peace,” the Archbishop told worshippers, highlighting Christ’s transformative power to unite humanity.
He explained that through Jesus, diverse and opposing groups are brought together into one new humanity, urging the Church to reflect this unity by breaking down barriers of race, culture, and social status.
Archbishop Kaziimba also elaborated on the biblical concept of the “middle wall of separation,” referring to the wall in the Jerusalem temple that divided Jews and Gentiles. “Jesus destroyed this wall,” he said, stressing that hostility and division were conquered through the cross. This reconciliation, he noted, allows all believers equal and direct access to God, removing animosity rather than merely managing it.
