Police in Kabale District are investigating a suspected case of murder after the body of a woman, identified only as Patricia, was found on Sunday morning in the compound of Nyakijumba Catholic Church in Kyanamira Sub-county.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said the body was discovered at around 9:00am.
Detectives from Kabale Police Station examined and documented the scene, and a sniffer dog allegedly led officers to the home of the deceased’s lover, whose house sits next to the church. The suspect fled and is currently on the run.
At the suspected primary crime scene, officers observed drag marks leading from the house to the church compound, indicating that Patricia’s body may have been moved from the residence and dumped near the church.
Inside the house, police recovered pieces of a mattress and a blanket believed to be soaked with body fluids. These items were taken as exhibits and sent for forensic analysis.
Preliminary findings suggest that the body may have been kept inside the house for about three days before being dragged to the church compound early Sunday morning.
The body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
ASP Maate said a manhunt has been launched to locate the suspect so he can assist with further investigations.
