Police in Hiima Division, Kasese District, are hunting for suspects who vandalised electricity infrastructure and stole power line conductors along the Kasese–Fort Portal transmission line.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vandalism happened during the night of 17th and 18th July 2026 at Kikura Village, Mubuku Town Council, where unknown people cut and stole about 360 metres of 120mm² conductor wire valued at approximately UGX 7.5 million. Another 240 metres of wire was left hanging at the scene, affecting six electricity poles.
The incident was reported by Ibrahim Sseremba, a UEDCL Network Technical Officer in Kasese. Police visited and documented the scene, with investigations linking the incident to an earlier vandalism case on the same power line reported on 13th July 2026, where suspects appear to have continued cutting from where they had stopped.
Rwenzori East Police spokesperson ASP Maate Elly says police will work with UEDCL and local leaders, intensify patrols along the affected corridor, and continue investigations to identify the suspects and recover the stolen conductors.
