Authorities in Mbarara District convened a security meeting on Wednesday at Kashare Sub-County headquarters to address the escalating cases of livestock theft, which have become increasingly rampant in the area.
The meeting brought together security operatives and key stakeholders, who agreed to intensify security measures by deploying patrols and forming village vigilance teams to curb the rising theft of goats, cows, and coffee beans in Kashare and neighboring areas.
Kashare Sub-County Chairman, Fred Mwesigye, highlighted growing concerns from local communities, noting that complaints about theft are received day and night.
To tackle the issue, he announced plans to invite all LC1 chairpersons for a security sensitization meeting aimed at reinforcing community-led surveillance.
During the meeting, Mbarara District Police Commander, SP Benon Byamukama, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to authorities.
He emphasized that community involvement is key in ensuring security and preventing further crimes.
