Religious leaders from all faiths in Ibanda District have joined the rest of the world in mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, who died on Monday at the age of 88.
His death has sparked an outpouring of grief and reflection on a remarkable legacy defined by compassion, unity, and advocacy for the marginalized.
Speaking to Crooze FM, Rev. Fr. Eladius Thailo, the Parish Priest of Bubare Catholic Parish, described Pope Francis as a leader whose influence extended far beyond the Catholic Church.
He praised the pope’s commitment to social justice and humility, urging the faithful not to let the pope’s death weaken their belief in Christ but rather to be inspired by his example.
Bishop Amos Magezi, the Bishop of the North West Ankole Diocese, also conveyed his heartfelt condolences.
Recalling his personal encounter with Pope Francis during the pontiff’s visit in 2015, Bishop Magezi spoke warmly of the pope’s dedication to human rights, dialogue, and global harmony.
As the world continues to mourn, Ibanda’s interfaith community stands united in prayer and solidarity.
Leaders are calling on believers everywhere to remember Pope Francis not only as the head of the Catholic Church but also as a global symbol of compassion, moral courage, and hope for a better world.
