The Government of Uganda has announced plans to begin compensating residents affected by the construction of the 68km Kihura-Bwizi-Rwamwanja-Kahunge Road and the 38km Mpara-Bwizi Road projects in Kamwenge District starting in July 2025.

This announcement was made by the State Minister for Works, Musa Ecweru, during the official launch of the projects last Friday at Bwizi Seed Secondary School, located in Bwizi Sub-county, Kamwenge District.

Addressing concerns from local residents about the potential loss of property due to the road construction, Minister Ecweru reassured the community that compensation would be provided in a phased approach.

He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent process for compensating those whose properties will be affected by the road works.

Minister Ecweru further clarified that the compensation funds will be managed separately from the construction contract, with the Government of Uganda providing the necessary funds directly to affected residents.

The road projects, which are expected to enhance connectivity in the region, have been highly anticipated, with many local residents expressing their support for the development despite the inconvenience posed by the construction process.

The compensation process will help mitigate the impact on affected families and ensure that the road development benefits the community as a whole.
