EC Warns LC Candidates Against Processions, Convoys

By Aggrey Twesigye

The Electoral Commission has warned candidates in the forthcoming Local Council (LC) elections against organizing campaign processions and vehicle convoys, saying such activities are prohibited under the electoral guidelines.

Electoral Commission Commissioner Stephen Tashobya said candidates should instead conduct house-to-house campaigns and hold meetings with voters to ensure peaceful and orderly campaigns. He also urged eligible Ugandans to turn up and vote on polling day.

The Commission has scheduled July 28, 2026 for the LC1 and LC2 elections, during which voters will elect village and parish leaders across Uganda’s 71,214 villages.

The elections follow several extensions of the terms of office for LC1 and LC2 leaders, whose mandates expired in 2023.
