Tension gripped the Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Kamwenge on April 14, 2025, after four suspects — including Kitagwenda District Councilor for Persons with Disabilities, Levi Amarakutunga — failed to appear for the scheduled mention of their case.

The group is facing serious charges of murder, kidnap, and human sacrifice following the death of four-year-old Trinah Ainomugisha.

The suspects, also identified as Radius Tumusiime (30), Deus Kakuru (28), and Nicholus Asingura (18), were previously remanded in March after appearing before the same court.

However, they were unable to take a plea as the case falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction. According to a source at court, the delay was caused by the High Court not being ready to proceed with the matter.

The absence of the accused left the victim’s family and local residents devastated, many of whom had gathered in anticipation of progress in the case.

Court officials explained that the Magistrate’s Court lacked authority to try capital offenses.

The case has now been adjourned to May 8, 2025, as the community continues to demand justice.
