Mbarara City Returning Officer Violet Atuhurra has confirmed that biometric voter verification machines will be used in tomorrow’s elections for city division mayors and councillors.

She expressed confidence that the machines will function properly, despite the challenges experienced during the recent parliamentary and presidential elections.

Atuhurra made the remarks on Monday morning as Mbarara City received 305 ballot boxes ahead of the polls.

She noted that five ballot boxes were found with one seal broken, which officials said likely occurred during transportation.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City North Division Mayor, Gumisiriza Kyabwisho, who is contesting for the same seat as an independent candidate, has called on residents to turn up in large numbers to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Kyabwisho acknowledged that voter turnout was low during the previous elections but expressed confidence that more voters will participate tomorrow to choose their leaders.
