By Uziah Tusaasire

Police in Kazo District are investigating a suspected murder and attempted murder in which a 10-year-old girl was killed and her 28-year-old mother left critically injured in Keicumu II Cell, Engari Sub-county.

The deceased, identified as Ahimbisibwe Shallona, a Primary Two pupil at Keicumu Maranatha Primary School, was found dead alongside her mother, Kyomugisha Juliet, on November 3, 2026.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect, identified as Kamukama Alon, reportedly approached neighbours at around 11pm and informed them that there was a dead body at his home without identifying the deceased.

The neighbours, led by the LC I Chairperson, rushed to the home and found the girl dead while her mother lay critically injured in a pool of blood. She was rescued and rushed to Kagongo Hospital in Ibanda District for treatment.

Police deployed homicide investigators, Scenes of Crime Officers and canine handlers to the scene. A sniffer dog reportedly tracked a scent trail to Star Clinic in Keicumu, where the suspect, who is said to be the survivor’s husband, was found receiving treatment.

Investigators also recovered a white bucket containing reddish-coloured water at the scene, which is suspected to have been used to wash away evidence. Police say the suspect maintains a traditional shrine at his residence.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, with officers waiting for his medical condition to improve before conducting further questioning.
