Mbarara Police Hold Student Over Girls’ Dormitory Fire at St Paul’s SS Kagongi

By Aggrey Twesigye

Police in Mbarara District are holding a Senior Three student of St Paul’s Secondary School Kagongi over her alleged involvement in the burning of a girls’ dormitory at the school.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 8am, according to Mbarara District Police Commander SP Benon Byamukama, who said police received a tip-off implicating the juvenile in the fire.

Byamukama said the suspect, whose identity has been withheld because of her age, is detained at Bwizibwera Police Station and is facing an arson charge. The case was registered under SD REF 10/02/11/2026, as investigations continue.

The school headteacher, Venas Musinguzi, said the student confessed to participating in the incident and reportedly disclosed that she had recently been suspended over indiscipline.

Musinguzi said the fire broke out while students were attending the morning assembly, destroying only a few items in the dormitory.
