Police in Katwe Division, Kasese District, have arrested a 52-year-old businessman on allegations of aggravated defilement involving a 10-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as Ismael Bamuturaki, a resident of Top Hill Ward in Katwe-Kabatooro Town Council, is currently in police custody.
According to Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the victim had been staying with her aunt, who is the suspect’s wife, in a two-roomed house. Maate said the aunt travelled to Mubende on June 20, 2026, leaving the child at home with the suspect.
Police allege that beginning on July 15, the suspect would pick the girl from the sitting room, where she normally slept, and take her to his bedroom during the night.
The case came to light after the girl disclosed the alleged abuse to a fellow pupil at Katwe Primary School. The pupil informed the head teacher, who reported the matter to Katwe Police Division.
Police registered a case of aggravated defilement, recorded the victim’s statement and conducted a medical examination before arresting the suspect.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
