Patients and caregivers seeking treatment at Ntara Health Centre IV in Kitagwenda District are facing growing hardship due to persistent water shortages, forcing many to buy water or walk long distances in search of the essential resource.
Although the government health facility is connected to the Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation, residents say the water supply remains unreliable, leaving patients and their attendants without adequate water for personal hygiene and basic sanitation.
Speaking to Crooze FM, some caregivers said that they are forced to purchase a 20-litre jerrycan of water at Shs500 from nearby vendors or walk nearly a kilometre to fetch water from alternative sources.
Others noted that the shortage has made it difficult to maintain proper hygiene within the health facility.
Responding to the concerns, Kitagwenda District Health Officer, Dr. Irene Kahimakazi, acknowledged the challenge and assured residents that the district is taking measures to address the problem.
She added that the district remains committed to improving health service delivery through investments in essential infrastructure, including reliable water supply.
