The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) focal person in Kasese District, Saulo Maate, has welcomed the resignation of Mariam Wangadya as Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).
Maate, who is also a member of the PFF Council of Eminent Persons, claimed that Uganda is experiencing widespread human rights violations and alleged that the Commission had done little to protect victims. He said Wangadya may have resigned after reaching a point where she could no longer tolerate what he described as abuse of power by state actors.
Addressing the media, Maate urged other public officials to leave office whenever they believe their responsibilities conflict with their conscience, saying integrity and a good reputation are more important than remaining in office for financial gain.
