About 1,500 pilgrims from the Catholic Diocese of Beni-Butembo in the Democratic Republic of Congo have arrived at the DR Congo–Uganda border.

The pilgrims were received by the Bishop of Kasese Diocese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira, and welcomed by large crowds in Kasese District.

Bishop Kibira said the pilgrims will be hosted at the Kasese Catholic Diocese headquarters in Kasese Town ahead of the official foot pilgrimage to Namugongo, scheduled for Monday, 19 May 2026.

Church leaders described the arrival as a moment of unity, faith, and spiritual fellowship between the people of DR Congo and Uganda.
