The election victory of Deo Atuhaire as LC V chairperson for Buhweju District has been challenged in the High Court of Uganda sitting in Bushenyi.
His former rival, Phillip Muhamya Panadol, has filed a petition seeking to overturn the January 2026 election results, in which Atuhaire was declared winner with 22,231 votes against Muhamya’s 19,754.
Muhamya alleges the election was marred by irregularities, including voter bribery and manipulation of results. Through his lawyers at Imperium Advocates, he argues that the process violated the Local Governments Act, the Electoral Commission Act, and the 1995 Constitution of Uganda.
The petition also accuses officials from the Electoral Commission of Uganda of colluding with Atuhaire’s agents to alter figures on official declaration forms.
The court has not yet set a hearing date.
