At least 2,000 pilgrims from the Democratic Republic of the Congo have expressed interest in participating in this year’s pilgrimage to Namugongo Martyrs Shrine for the Uganda Martyrs’ Day celebrations.

This year’s event, scheduled for June 3, will be animated by the Diocese of Kasese under the theme, “Christ is Alive in You and Me.”

The Bishop of Kasese Diocese, Francis Aquirinus Kibiira, said the Congolese pilgrims’ interest reflects growing appreciation for Christianity in Uganda. He noted that the diocese is currently registering the pilgrims and coordinating with security agencies and the Ministry of Internal Affairs for clearance.

As part of preparations, Bishop Kibiira also held a mass for Kasese District staff, urging them to support the mobilization efforts and commit to prayer for a successful celebration.
