The Kisoro District Traffic Officer, ASP Michael Kushaba, has warned scrap dealers over the rising cases of vandalism involving road signposts and guardrails in Kisoro District.

These road safety measures, designed to guide road users and prevent accidents, are reportedly being targeted by individuals seeking scrap metal.

Speaking to our reporter about the state of road safety, particularly along the Kabale–Kisoro–Bunagana Road, ASP Kushaba expressed concern over the disappearance of road signs and guardrails. He strongly condemned the practice of dismantling these safety installations, which has become rampant in the district, and warned that such vandalism could lead to a spike in road accidents.

“The vandalism of road signposts is a dangerous and reckless act. These signs and guardrails are essential for guiding both pedestrians and motorists. Their removal not only endangers lives but also undermines road safety in the region,” Kushaba stated.

He revealed that investigations are underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the destruction of road infrastructure. In addition, Kushaba called on road users to respect traffic rules and adhere to the guidance provided by road signs. He emphasized the importance of road signs in ensuring the safety of all road users, particularly pedestrians.
