Police in the Rwenzori East Region together with the Uganda Red Cross Society have rescued a 50-year-old woman who was trapped by floods on River Nyamwamba in Kasese Municipality this evening.
Goret Muhindo, a resident of Kajuma Village in Bulembia Division, was found alive and uninjured after fast-rising water surrounded her while she was in Kyangumirya Village.
Speaking after the rescue, Muhindo said she had crossed the river earlier in the day to dig in her garden before the water level suddenly rose at around midday, cutting her off and leaving her stranded.
She said she raised an alarm, prompting residents to alert police.
Security officers from Rwenzori East, with the help of local residents, responded swiftly and safely rescued her.
Meanwhile, Wilson Lhughabwe urged residents living near River Nyamwamba to avoid crossing during heavy rains, warning that water levels can rise rapidly and become dangerous.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
