Police in Rubanda District have arrested 51-year-old Nyangire Estali for allegedly causing the death of her husband, 55-year-old Rwanyarare Julius, during a domestic dispute in Muko Sub County.
On March 13, 2025, Julius, intoxicated, returned home and began assaulting Estali. During the altercation, he attempted to strike her with a hoe, but Estali, acting in self-defense, seized the hoe and struck him on the head, inflicting a serious injury.
Neighbors, including the LC1 Chairperson, intervened and rushed Julius to a nearby clinic. His condition deteriorated, and he was transferred to Kabale Regional Hospital, where he later died on March 15.
Estali was arrested and taken to Muko Police Station for further investigation.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed a history of domestic violence between the couple. Initially reported as an assault (SD REF: 16/15/03/2025), the case has been upgraded to murder under Rubanda Police CRB 105/2025.
Homicide officers and district SOCO responded to the crime scene, recovering the hoe as evidence. A postmortem has been completed, and the body was released to the family for burial.
