The Mbarara District Chairperson, Didas Tabaro, has called on the district’s finance department and sub-county leaders to strengthen local revenue collection, saying the district should not depend entirely on central government transfers.

Tabaro said Mbarara has the capacity to raise funds locally to support the construction of its UGX 15 billion administrative block in Bwizibwera Town Council.

Speaking during the district budget conference for the 2026/2027 financial year held at Adit Mall in Mbarara City on Thursday, Tabaro emphasized the need for innovation and accountability in revenue mobilization to ensure timely completion of the project as the district awaits additional government support.

He revealed that Mbarara District also plans to establish a Health Training Institute and a Regional Zoo in Bwizibwera, but noted that some of these initiatives have faced resistance from certain stakeholders.

Tabaro urged unity and cooperation among leaders and residents to ensure the successful implementation of these development projects.
