By Aggrey Twesigye

Mbarara University of Science and Technology has launched the construction of phase one of its College of Health Sciences, a major project aimed at boosting medical education and research capacity.

The UGX 180.83 billion project has been awarded to NEC Construction Works and Engineering Limited and will include the School of Biomedical Sciences and an administration block.

Vice Chancellor Pauline Byakika Kibwika said the development is part of a broader master plan to expand health sciences infrastructure, noting the project will be implemented in three phases.

She also commended Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for continued government support.

Innocent Oula, Deputy General Manager of NEC, pledged timely and quality delivery, while University Council Chairperson Wallen Namara expressed confidence in the contractor.

The facility, designed by National Housing and Construction Company, is expected to ease infrastructure pressure and provide a modern learning environment for health sciences students.
