Police in the Rwizi Region have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a taxi driver whose dismembered body was recovered from River Rwizi after he had been missing for more than three weeks.
The deceased, Basajja Majidu, a resident of Nyakizi Village in Kakooba, Mbarara City South, operated on the Mbarara–Rukungiri taxi route before his disappearance.
According to police and local leaders, Majidu had been missing for several weeks, prompting a search by relatives, colleagues, and security agencies.
The breakthrough came after detectives arrested a suspect identified as Ali Mbaziira, also a taxi driver, in connection with the case.
The chairman of taxi drivers operating along the Mbarara–Rukungiri–Kanungu route said the deceased was reportedly killed in a gruesome manner, with some body parts, including the head and abdomen, still missing.
He further stated that the deceased was allegedly murdered shortly after selling his plot of land in Rukungiri Town for UGX 30 million.
