Mbarara city RCC warns engineers against substandard roadwork

Story by Aggrey Twesigye

The Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Mbarara City North Division, Jacklin Kankunda, has issued a strong warning to division engineers to ensure high-quality standards are maintained in road construction projects.

Kankunda emphasized the importance of delivering durable and well-executed work while inspecting two key road projects in the division.

On Thursday, Kankunda conducted an inspection of the grading of the 4-kilometer Kokundeka-Kamatarisi road in Biharwe West Ward, and the commencement of rehabilitation works on the 6-kilometer Kamatarisi-Akembogo road in Rwenjeru Ward.

During the visit, she urged engineers to prioritize quality and ensure that the roads reflect value for money, urging them not to compromise on standards.

Also present during the inspection, the Mbarara City North Division Mayor, Gumisiriza Kyabwisho, encouraged local residents to take advantage of the improved infrastructure for economic growth.

He highlighted that the better roads would help residents engage in more commercial activities, thereby boosting household incomes and overall community development.

The two roads, which will undergo opening, grading, shaping, and malum surfacing, have been allocated a total budget of 100 million shillings.

These projects are part of ongoing efforts to improve the road network in Mbarara City North Division, which is expected to significantly contribute to the region’s economic growth.
