Police in the Kigezi sub-region have issued safety guidelines to motorists and the public ahead of the Easter festivities.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, urged operators of entertainment venues and places of worship to strengthen their security measures to ensure the safety of revellers and congregants during the celebrations.

He emphasized the need for walk-through scanners and metal detectors at entry points to deter potential threats.

Maate also appealed to motorists to exercise maximum discipline on the roads, strictly follow the Highway Code, and avoid over-speeding, citing the region’s challenging terrain as a major risk factor.

He warned against drinking and driving and advised travellers to avoid long return trips in a single day to minimize fatigue. Drivers were also reminded to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting out.

Residents were urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or abandoned items to the nearest police station or local authorities.
