Kamwenge Extends Cattle Market Closure Over FMD

By Ivan Mugisha

Livestock farmers and cattle traders in Kamwenge District will have to wait longer before cattle markets reopen after authorities extended the closure due to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) concerns.

The decision was reached by the district FMD Task Force chaired by Resident District Commissioner Africano Aharikundira, as part of efforts to support the government’s vaccination campaign.

Aharikundira said the markets will remain closed until all eligible animals are vaccinated and veterinary authorities confirm that the district is safe from the spread of the disease.
