Police have confirmed the death of a 40-year-old American tourist who died today in Kanungu District in a tragic road accident.

The deceased, identified as Shuldman Harrison Evan from New York, USA, was traveling in a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number UAM 271U. The crash occurred at around 7:00 AM in Kakureiju village, Kanungu District.

The vehicle, driven by 33-year-old Alpha Dadaire from Wakiso District, reportedly lost control while navigating a sharp corner on a steep slope, leading to a rollover that ended at Kyeshero Bridge.

SP Michael Kananura, the Community Liaison Officer for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety said that the accident left other passengers, including Zachary Avayou, a 39-year-old from Pennsylvania, USA, and Jeremy Frederick Wright, a 25-year-old from California, USA injured.

Kananura says that the driver, Alpha Dadaire, was also injured

The injured victims were rushed to Bwindi Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was transported to the same hospital.

SP Kananura explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle’s brakes failed, causing the crash.

He revealed that the vehicle lost control while navigating a sharp corner on a slope, rolled several times, and came to rest in Kyeshero Bridge.

The vehicle has been towed to Kihihi Police Station for inspection as investigations into the accident continue.
