Police in Kabale District are investigating the death of Kyoro Nazario Twebaze, who suffocated after accidentally falling into a fuel tank in Kamuganguzi Sub County.
According to James Mutungi, the Local Council One Chairman of Nyakatungunda Cell, the incident occurred on Sunday at around 10:15 PM at Twebaze’s home.
Police reports indicate that a tri-cycle with registration number UGA 838R, carrying a petrol-filled plastic tank, had been parked at Twebaze’s residence for safekeeping after developing mechanical issues.
Later that night, Twebaze allegedly heard suspicious activity and suspected thieves attempting to steal fuel. While investigating, he climbed onto the tank to check its contents but slipped and fell inside, suffocating to death.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that a case file has been opened.
Police have documented the scene, taken statements from witnesses, and transported the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem. The tri-cycle and fuel tank have been seized as exhibits for further investigation.
Authorities are urging residents to avoid taking personal risks in similar situations and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
