The Bwera Division Police Commander in Kasese, SP Joseph Bakaleke Baido, has warned police officers stationed at Munkunyu Sub-county headquarters against engaging in unprofessional conduct.
Speaking during a community dialogue meeting at Munkunyu Health Centre, SP Bakaleke said officers found soliciting bribes, charging for police bonds, demanding fuel from complainants before responding to incidents, and engaging in other forms of misconduct will face disciplinary action.
Residents accused some officers of poor handling of cases, including demanding excessive fuel allowances before responding to incidents, releasing suspects without clear explanations, and treating complainants with arrogance.
The residents said such actions have affected public trust in the police and discouraged people from reporting crimes.
SP Bakaleke condemned the allegations and urged residents to report any cases of misconduct, promising that complaints will be investigated and offenders punished.
He also called for stronger cooperation between police and the community to improve security in Munkunyu Sub-county.
