Preparations for the annual Uganda Martyrs Day pilgrimage are in high gear, with the Diocese of Butembo-Beni registering more than 1,500 pilgrims expected to join thousands of faithful at Namugongo Martyrs Shrine.

The update was shared during Holy Mass presided over on behalf of the Ordinary of the Diocese of Kasese, Francis Kibira, by the Diocesan Vicar General Landus Bwambale.

In his homily, Msgr. Bwambale commended Kitswamba Parish for completing its contribution toward the pilgrimage.

He urged Christians across the Diocese of Kasese to intensify mobilization efforts and spiritually prepare for the journey to Namugongo.

The Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations, held every June 3 at Namugongo, attract pilgrims from Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other countries to honor the 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican martyrs killed between 1885 and 1887 because of their faith.
