Police in Kanungu District have launched investigations into the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy following a late-night altercation at Omukashansha Trading Centre in Kambuga Sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as Darius Tukamushaba, a resident of Kakoni Cell, Nyarugunda Parish in Kanungu District.
According to Elly Maate, the incident happened on Thursday at around 11:30 p.m.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the suspect, identified only as Mugisha, was drinking with friends at Kasingire’s bar when the deceased reportedly approached and called him outside.
An eyewitness, Tayebwa Yeremia, reportedly followed the two outside before the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Darius in the stomach before fleeing the scene.
Yeremia alerted people in the bar, including Niwasiima Pakarasio, before local leaders and the victim’s relatives were informed.
The injured teenager was rushed to Kambuga Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers later visited and documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and conducted a postmortem examination at the hospital.
Maate said efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing and appealed to members of the public to cooperate with investigators as inquiries into the motive behind the killing continue.
