Flavian Zeija has commenced a three-day working visit to courts in southwestern Uganda aimed at strengthening justice service delivery and improving collaboration among justice actors.
The tour covers Kabale High Court, Rukungiri High Court, and Magistrates’ Courts in Kisoro, Rubanda, Rukiga, and Kanungu. During the engagements, the Chief Justice is meeting judicial officers and stakeholders to explore ways of improving efficiency and addressing operational challenges affecting court performance.
The visit provides a platform for direct engagement with court users and judicial officers, enabling the Chief Justice to receive firsthand feedback and identify practical solutions to improve access to justice across the region.
The programme began at Kisoro Chief Magistrate’s Court, where Justice Zeija was received by senior judicial officers, including Resident Judge Karoli Lwanga Ssemogerere, Acting Chief Registrar Pamella Ocaya, and Assistant Registrar Kenneth Tumwebaze.
Also present was Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Judiciary, who joined in assessing court operations and administrative priorities.
Local leaders and members of the justice sector in Kisoro District, including RDC Badru Ssebyala and Bishop Godfrey Mbitse, were also in attendance alongside representatives from security agencies.
Upon arrival, Justice Zeija inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Uganda Police Force before touring court facilities, including courtrooms, chambers, and archives.
The engagements have attracted stakeholders from the legal fraternity, security agencies, local government, and religious institutions, reflecting a coordinated effort to strengthen the justice system.
Judicial proceedings and coordination of the visit are being overseen by Judiciary Public Relations Officer James Ereemye Jumire Mawanda, with support from Ivan Busulwa.
