Police in Nateete have arrested a suspect linked to the theft of motor vehicle number plates following an intelligence-led operation.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Rechael Kawala, identified the suspect as Steven Semuju, a 33-year-old resident of Busega.
During the operation, police recovered seven stolen number plates, including UAH 286S, UA 309BQ, UA 682BZ, UAM 277G, UAN 796B, and UBK 264Y (pair).

According to police, on the night of 11 February 2026, unknown individuals unlawfully entered the compound of Lutamaguzi Patrick in Busega–Kabale, Rubaga Division, Kampala, and stole a number plate from his silver Toyota Opa, registration UAN 796B.
In an unusual turn of events, the suspect reportedly left behind a contact phone number (0759-353167) written on the vehicle, which later provided a crucial lead for investigators.

Following his arrest, Semuju led security agencies to locations where the stolen number plates had been concealed in Busega–Kabale and Kiteemu Kivulu, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue and is expected to be charged in court accordingly.
