Grace Agaba Byarugaba

Grace Agaba Byarugaba, a candidate in the recently concluded Buhweju County parliamentary elections, has formally challenged the results, alleging that the electoral process was marred by serious irregularities.

Byarugaba, who came third with 599 votes, lost to the NRM’s Eng. Zadock Mutekanga, who won with 11,322 votes, while incumbent Francis Mwijukye (PFF) finished second with 9,790 votes.

Addressing the media on Monday evening in Mbarara City, Byarugaba claimed that the election was compromised through the bribery of her polling agents and intimidation by political opponents, actions she says significantly influenced the outcome of the vote.

She argued that such practices undermined the principles of free and fair elections and disenfranchised voters in the constituency.

Despite disputing the results, Byarugaba called for calm among her supporters and emphasized that she would continue championing development and accountability in Buhweju, regardless of the election outcome.

She noted that her decision to speak out was aimed at safeguarding the integrity of future elections and ensuring justice for voters.
