Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attempted murder of Angello Twinomuhangi, an independent candidate for the Rukungiri District LC V chairperson seat.
Twinomuhangi was found tied up and unconscious after being abandoned at Minera Bridge in Nyarushanje Sub-county on January 6, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m.
According to police, the victim had a handkerchief tied across his mouth, while his arms were bound behind his back with a suspected USB cable. He was later rescued and rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, said investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack and to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
