Police in Mbarara city, working jointly with the army, over the weekend intercepted 10 buses at the Biharwe checkpoint carrying 823 youths allegedly being transported under the AIM Global scheme, which authorities describe as fraudulent.

The buses, stopped at around 1 a.m. on Saturday were immediately impounded and escorted to the Mbarara police playground, where all passengers were subjected to a thorough screening exercise.

Sources revealed that the youths had been mobilized from several districts across the western region and were en route to Kampala.

Following full documentation, security forces have now begun transporting 823 of the youths back to their respective homes.

Rwizi Region police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira said many of the victims claimed they had been coerced into paying between Shs1.2 million and Shs1.5 million to the AIM Global Alliance scheme after being promised job opportunities in Kampala.
