The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has urged bishops across the country to pray for peaceful elections ahead of the 2026 general polls.
Speaking on Thursday during the Western and South Western Bishops’ Fellowship held at Las Vegas in Mbarara City, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the need for peace, unity, and reconciliation as the country enters the election season.
He called on bishops to preach messages of peace, forgiveness, respect, and mutual support, noting that the Church has a vital role to play in fostering harmony during the political season.
The Archbishop’s message comes at a time when Uganda is in campaign season to elect the President, Members of Parliament, and local government leaders.
He also commended the bishops for the support they continue to give to refugees and vulnerable communities within their dioceses.
More than 90 bishops—serving and retired—along with their spouses from 14 dioceses in Western and South Western Uganda have gathered for a five-day retreat in the Ankole Diocese.
The dioceses represented include Muhabura, Kigezi, North Kigezi, Kinkiizi, West Ankole, Ankole, South Ankole, Masindi-Kitara, Bunyoro-Kitara, among others. The retreat will conclude with a thanksgiving service at the Ankole Diocese.
