Police in Kanungu District have launched a manhunt for Erias Nahwera, who is accused of decapitating his 75-year-old father, Bagambana Nyansio, following a heated argument over land. The gruesome incident occurred in Kanungu Town Council on Wednesday.

According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, the dispute stemmed from Nyansio’s desire to sell a portion of his land to fund medical treatment. He had requested the necessary land documents from Nahwera, but his son refused to hand them over.

The situation escalated on Wednesday when Nyansio, feeling unwell, asked Nahwera for money to go to Katate Health Center IV. Nahawera again refused, further angering his father, who reiterated his demand for the land documents.

Later that day, Nyansio left for the health centre while his wife went to a nearby bar. Upon returning home around 7:00 p.m., she discovered her husband’s decapitated body on their bed. A bloodstained machete was found at the scene.

Area chairperson, Twesigye Koronerio, reported the incident to the police. A team, including a canine unit, responded and processed the scene. The police dog tracked Nahwera to his residence, but he had fled.

The body was taken to Katate Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. Police are also searching for the deceased’s herdsman, who is also missing, as they believe he may have information related to the crime. Maate confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that they are actively pursuing Nahwera.
